I have been singing, playing, writing, performing, recording, arranging, mixing, and producing original music for over twenty-five years. I am currently accepting new students interested in learning more about:

  • Songwriting (lyrics, melody, chord progression/harmony, rhythm; song structures, understanding the function and purpose of each part; putting it all together to create musical and emotional impact)
  • Voice (good breath support, phonation, and how to work with your instrument to discover the capabilities of your own, unique voice)
  • Guitar (from absolute beginner to intermediate player; from singer-songwriter self-accompaniment to writing and playing lead lines; underlying theory)
  • Bass guitar (basic technique & theory; writing bass lines to original songs; playing with a drummer/band; singing while playing bass)
  • Harmonica (basic technique & theory; blues harp/note bending; self-accompaniment with guitar)
  • Ukulele (basic technique & theory; self-accompaniment for singer-songwriters)
  • Singing harmony (writing and singing additional vocal parts, either live with another singer or recording yourself on multiple tracks)
  • Playing in a duo/group (listening; timing/staying together; playing complementary parts/arranging; how to write/improvise leads/solos)
  • Home recording (basics of setting up a home studio to record your songs on multiple tracks to a DAW; recording, editing, comping; multiple takes versus punching in)
  • Composing/Arranging (adding other parts and/or instruments to your guitar & vocal piece; creating backing tracks/rhythm section from scratch)
  • Mixing/Production (editing parts to serve the song; levels, panning, effects, automation; virtual/MIDI instruments; samplers/synths; drum programming/sequencing, etc.)
  • Music theory (scales/modes/keys, harmonic relationships, rhythm, etc., as dictated by student interest, relevance, and usefulness to student goals)
  • Reading/writing musical notation/tablature (basic; not critical for most genres I work in, but as with theory, we can cover this as useful/necessary to student's musical goals)
