- Start with questions:
- What is your current level of musical knowledge/ability?
- What are your goals (i.e., specific outcomes)?
- What do you want to learn (e.g., guitar, songwriting, recording)?
- How do you learn best (e.g., lots of theory/connecting different pieces, dive right in to practical technique/analyze retrospectively)?
- Tailor lessons to the answers to above
- Match speed of instruction/information to student’s current capacity for same
- Questions highly encouraged! What? Why? How? When?
- Let student’s interest/curiosity steer instruction
